Background

The Dinovate Centre for Media and Social Impact (DCMSI) is dedicated to harnessing the power of media, storytelling, and participatory research to drive inclusive development and social change across Africa and beyond. DCMSI works at the intersection of media, advocacy, research, and training to amplify underrepresented voices, influence policy, and equip changemakers through community-rooted campaigns and initiatives. The Programme Lead will be a key driver in implementing and scaling the Centre’s core programs and building strategic partnerships.

Role Summary

The Programme Lead will be responsible for the design, coordination, execution, and monitoring of DCMSI’s flagship initiatives. This includes impact storytelling projects, fellowships and training programs, participatory research, advocacy campaigns, and donor-funded interventions. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep passion for storytelling, social change, and inclusive development. We're seeking a proactive and resourceful individual who can work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their work, develop effective solutions, and drive results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Strategy & Implementation:
    • Lead the development, planning, and execution of all DCMSI programs.
    • Translate vision into actionable work plans, timelines, and deliverables.
    • Oversee day-to-day program operations and ensure timely execution.
  • Partnership & Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, consultants, and communities.
    • Represent DCMSI at external events, meetings, and strategic collaborations.
  • Monitoring, Learning & Evaluation:
    • Develop M&E frameworks and indicators for tracking impact.
    • Oversee documentation, storytelling, and learning processes across projects.
    • Prepare high-quality reports and case studies for donors and stakeholders.
  • Fundraising & Resource Mobilization:
    • Lead the development of grant proposals, concept notes, and pitch decks to secure funding.
    • Identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities from donors, foundations, and institutional partners.
    • Collaborate with the executive team to build a sustainable resource mobilization strategy.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Program Execution & Impact:
    • Successfully launch and complete at least 3–5 core programs or projects annually.
    • 80%+ of project milestones met on time and within budget.
    • Deliver a minimum of 2 new innovative storytelling or advocacy products (e.g., campaigns, films, research outputs) delivered annually.
  • Fundraising & Proposal Development:
    • Submit a minimum of 5 high-quality proposals/concept notes per year.
    • Secure at least 2 new grants or funding partnerships annually.
    • Maintain a proposal success rate of 30% or higher.
  • Partnership & External Engagement:
    • Build or strengthen at least 5 new institutional relationships over 12 months.
    • Represent DCMSI at 5+ high-level events or conferences annually.
    • Establish 3 long-term collaborations or MOUs with development partners or academic institutions.
  • Visibility & Strategic Growth:
    • Contribute to a 15–20% increase in DCMSI’s digital or media visibility (tracked via impressions, press mentions, and engagement).
    • Lead the conceptualization and rollout of at least 1 new strategic initiative or campaign aligned with DCSMI’s mission.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in development studies, media, communications, social sciences, or related field.
  • 5–8 years’ experience leading development or media-based projects.
  • Strong background in project management, program design, or social impact campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in storytelling, advocacy, or community engagement.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing donor-funded programs and working with NGOs, CSOs, or multilateral partners is a strong asset.
  • Passionate about equity, inclusion, social justice, and systemic change.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with participatory research, media for development (M4D), or digital storytelling.
  • Ability to think both strategically and operationally.
  • Experience in managing budgets, teams, and remote collaborators.
  • Creative mindset and comfort with innovation and experimentation.
